Weekly learning  (March 2nd - March 6th)

- We learnt a new style of writing this, we focused on informational writing
-In Math we practiced our place value skills and the ways we have learnt to express numbers ie standard form, base 10 blocks, expanded form, and written form
-We learnt about boats this week and how to stabilize with a keel, how to waterproof them, and how to pay close attention to the joints one of the weaker points on a boat. We looked at different boats and how they work and how they can fail
- Mad Science came and enhanced our knowledge of boats and how to make them go
- In Social we looked at how the Arctic looks in winter and summer and figured out what we would wear there and how it compares to what we wear here at home
- We had the privilege of having guests from the Calgary Opera come and preform for us a whole mini Opera. We all loved it, it was very funny

Looking forward in Grade 2

-Next week we will get to build our boats, ensure you send supplies with your child (tape is super important to send so each child has their own this will require a lot of tape)
- We will explore more about the Arctic and the early days, how they lived in igloos, the northern lights, we will eventually create a beautiful Art piece with Northern lights, and we will also explore what school is like in the Arctic compared to home
- We will work on some deceptive writing to make our writing more interesting
- For Math we will explore 3-d shapes and their attributes ie sides, vertices, edges
