Thank you all for attending math night last night, it was a great success and a lot of fun. Some of our students won prizes from last night so that was super exciting for us today.

Weekly learning  (Feb 3rd- Feb 7th)

- In math we practiced our mental math skills with and without regrouping, we figured out how to use friendly numbers such as 6+6= 12 and 12-6= 6 to practice being faster with subtraction mental math skills
- In science we focused on wrapping up our hot and cold unit by looking at how our houses are heated and by using our knowledge of insulators to make a thermos, this was very successful, these thermos will be making their way home. Ask your child to demonstrate or explain their design and how it works
- We worked on comprehending word problems in math seeing the important information and how to pull out the important information to be able to solve them the most efficiently
- Instead of exploring beginning, middle, and end we explored how to write opinion pieces to be able to express ourselves and our opinions
- We made our snow globes this week to go along with our stories about being trapped in a snow globe, they definitely allowed us to explore our creativity


Looking forward in Grade 2

-On Wednesday February 12th in the afternoon we will exchange valentines and have a little party to celebrate Valentines day with our class. There was a letter sent home yesterday with all the details in regards to this 
- We have a very short week next week because of Teachers Convention, so only a 3 day week, and we will have a lot of fun valentines activities to go along with our learning next week
- In Math we will work on some Valentine themed word problems and a really fun locked box that will allow us to practice our adding and subtracting skills
- We will have some time to start working on our Inuit unit in Social starting with their geography
- During the week we will get to do some fun valentine themed art
- We will being to look at cause and effect as well as some kindness and self love writing to tie into valentines day
